A Brains & Beauty Treatment Story

Smoother. Firmer. Rebuilt from the inside.

Creams work on the surface. Pixel8 works where the problem actually is — in the dermis, where collagen is built and lost. Fine microneedles pass through the surface and release energy directly into that layer, prompting your skin to rebuild its own support structure over the months that follow. We choose the tip type to match your skin and your goal.

Take a peek

What if your skin could remember how to heal itself,
and you just had to remind it?

— How It Works

Two technologies, working together, beneath the surface.

Pixel8 combines microneedling and energy in a single treatment. The microneedles create tiny channels in your skin. The energy releases controlled warmth exactly where collagen is made. Together, they trigger your skin's most powerful renewal response — without harming the surface.

01

The Channels

Tiny 24k gold-plated needles create thousands of microscopic channels in your skin. So small they're invisible — but enough to wake up your skin's natural healing response.

02

The Heat

Energy travels through the needles and warms the deeper layer where collagen lives. This tightens what's already there and sparks new collagen growth.

03

The Renewal

Over the next 4–12 weeks, your skin rebuilds itself. New collagen. New elastin. Firmer, smoother, brighter — and the results keep getting better for up to 6 months.

Mild redness, like a light sunburn. You'll feel warm for a few hours. Most clients head right back to work or out to dinner the next day.
Stage 1 of 6
— Your Visit

An hour that changes everything.

Here's exactly what happens when you come in for a Pixel8 RF treatment at Brains & Beauty. No surprises. No fluff. Just an honest walkthrough.

First ~30 min

Welcome, cleanse & numb

We thoroughly cleanse the treatment area, then apply a prescription numbing cream. It needs about 30 minutes to set in fully — we use that time to review your skin goals and answer any last questions.

Next 20–30 min

The treatment

Once you're numb, we treat the area in two passes — the second is what does the heavy lifting. There's some discomfort involved, more on the second pass. We work with you through it and can pause any time.

Last 10 min

Soothe & send off

We wipe the area with sterile water and apply post-treatment serum within the first few minutes, while the channels are still open and it can absorb. You'll leave with detailed aftercare instructions and a direct line to us for the next 48 hours.

— Honest Recovery

Plan to look a little flushed for 24 hours. Avoid makeup that first day. By day three, most people are back to normal — and that's when the real changes start happening underneath.

— Is This Right For Me?

Five quick questions. Honest answer.

— The B&B Difference

An RN, not an assembly line.

Most med spas in Tucson hand this device to a technician. We don't. Every treatment here is performed by an RN or NP — someone who screened your history before you sat down, who knows what's under the skin at every depth, and who can tell the difference between a normal endpoint and a problem while it's still happening.

Take one example. A reasonable-sounding instinct is that deeper needles mean better results, and a technician trained on the device rather than on the body has no reason to think otherwise. But the collagen you're trying to build lives in the dermis, and past it is fat — which responds to heat by breaking down. That shows up months later as a hollow that doesn't fill back in.

Knowing that isn't a matter of reading the manual. It's knowing what each layer is made of, what it does under heat, and what it can't recover from. Another clinic may have a similar device. The question is whether the person holding it understands your anatomy.

i.

A clinician runs the device

Depth, energy, tip type, and number of passes are clinical decisions. They get made by someone trained to make them, adjusted region by region across your face — not set once at the start of the session.

ii.

Screened before you're booked

Accutane history, pacemakers and implants, blood thinners, active infection, Fitzpatrick type. These change whether we treat you at all, and how. We check before you're in the chair, not after.

iii.

Honest expectations

We'll tell you what Pixel8 can do and what it can't — including when the answer is a different treatment entirely, or nothing yet. If you're not a candidate, we'll say so before you've paid for a series.

iv.

Direct access after care

Questions at 9pm the night of your treatment? You text us, not a front desk. Anything unexpected gets looked at by the person who treated you.

— Investment

Three ways to begin.

Most clients see meaningful improvement after a single session — but the published research recommends a series of three for the dramatic, long-lasting results that make Pixel8 famous.

— Honest Answers

What people actually ask us.

No marketing-speak. These are the real questions, with the real answers, from people considering Pixel8.

Does it hurt? +
Some, yes — we won't tell you otherwise. A strong prescription numbing cream handles most of it, but we treat in two passes and the second one is sharper. It's short: 20 to 30 minutes for the face. We offer comfort measures throughout — music, a squeeze ball, focused breathing, and breaks whenever you need one.
How long is the recovery? +
Expect to look flushed for 24 hours — like a mild sunburn. Tiny scabs may form day 1–3 and shed naturally; don't pick at them. Most clients are fully back to normal by day three.

The aftercare that matters: don't wash the area for 6 hours, then use only a gentle cleanser like Cetaphil with clean hands. No lotions, creams, or makeup for 24 hours. You can resume your normal skincare at 24 hours — except AHAs and BHAs, which wait 48 hours, and retinoids, which wait a full week. Skip vigorous exercise for 48 hours, drink at least 64 ounces of water a day, and stay out of direct sun for two weeks. When you are outside, use a zinc-based sunblock and a wide-brimmed hat. We'll send you home with all of this in writing.
How soon will I see results? +
Some changes show up almost immediately — within 3–7 days your skin tone looks brighter and more even. The real magic happens between week 4 and month 6, as your body builds new collagen. Results keep improving for up to half a year after each session.
How many sessions do I need? +
The published protocol from the device manufacturer is a minimum of three sessions, spaced 4–6 weeks apart. Most clients see meaningful change after one — but the dramatic, before-and-after results you've seen online are from full series. For deeper concerns like acne scars or significant laxity, four to six sessions may be ideal.
Is the needle cartridge new? +
Every time. Pixel8 tips are single-use, individually sealed in sterile packaging, and go into a sharps container the moment your treatment ends. There is no cleaning or reprocessing step, because there isn't one that would make a used cartridge safe.

It's a fair thing to ask. Reusing tips has happened in this industry, and you have no way to know from the chair. So if you'd like, say the word and we'll open your cartridge in front of you before we begin — no explanation needed, and we won't find it strange. It's your skin, and a sealed package is the easiest thing in the world to show you.
What's the difference between the needle tips? +
Pixel8 uses two kinds of tips, and which one we reach for depends on your skin and what we're treating.

Insulated tips are coated along the shaft, so energy is released only from the exposed point at the bottom. The heat lands in the deeper layer and the upper skin stays comparatively cool. That control makes them the safer choice for deeper work and for richly pigmented skin, where surface heat is what raises the risk of a pigment change afterward.

Non-insulated tips release energy along the whole length of the needle, treating the full thickness it passes through rather than just the tip. That broader effect is useful for surface-level concerns — texture, tone, fine lines, enlarged pores — where the target isn't only deep.

Neither is better. It's the same distinction as choosing the right depth: the tip gets matched to the tissue and the goal. We'll tell you which we're using and why before we start.
Can we go deeper for better results? +
This comes up a lot, usually after a great first session — and the honest answer is that deeper isn't better. It's just deeper.

Needle depth is chosen to land the energy in the dermis, which is where collagen is made and where every result you want comes from. Depth gets matched to the specific area and to how thick your skin is there: the tissue under the eye is a fraction of the thickness of the tissue on your abdomen, so the same setting in both places would be wrong in one of them.

Go past the dermis and the energy lands in the fat underneath. Fat is sensitive to heat, and when it's heated it can atrophy — the volume simply goes away. In the face, that reads as a hollow or sunken area that appears weeks to months later, and unlike a bruise or a scab, it doesn't come back on its own. Fixing it means filler, or nothing.

So we set depth by area and by your anatomy, not by how motivated you're feeling. If you want a bigger change, the lever is more sessions or a different treatment — not a deeper pass. We'll tell you which one applies to you.
Is it safe for darker skin tones? +
Yes. Pixel8's design — particularly its delay feature that keeps heat in the deeper layer and off the surface — makes it one of the safest RF microneedling devices for darker skin tones. We adjust treatment settings based on your Fitzpatrick skin type to minimize any risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
How is this different from regular microneedling? +
Regular microneedling creates surface micro-injuries to stimulate collagen. Pixel8 RF does that and releases controlled thermal energy into the deeper layer where collagen actually lives. The result: fewer sessions for the same change, better skin tightening, and the ability to treat skin laxity that traditional microneedling can't touch.
Wait — what exactly is RF energy, and is it safe? +
Honest question, and a really common one. "Radiofrequency" sounds intense — but it's actually one of the most familiar forms of energy in your daily life. RF is low-frequency electromagnetic energy, the same family as the signals coming from your WiFi router, your cell phone, your TV remote, and your car key fob. You're surrounded by it every day.

It didn't start with us, either. Every lightning strike on Earth radiates a broadband burst of radio energy — scientists call them sferics, short for atmospherics — spanning a range that includes the same frequencies this device uses. Lightning strikes somewhere on the planet roughly a hundred times a second, and those pulses travel thousands of miles between the ground and the ionosphere. NASA calls them one of Earth's natural songs. You've heard them, too — that crackle and static on an AM radio during a thunderstorm isn't interference with the signal, it's your radio picking up the lightning itself. You have been standing in this kind of energy your entire life.

Critically, RF is non-ionizing — it cannot damage your DNA or cause cancer the way X-rays or UV radiation can. It's been used safely in medicine for decades: surgeons use it to cauterize tissue, cardiologists use it to fix irregular heart rhythms, and dermatologists have used it for skin tightening since the early 2000s.

Inside Pixel8, the device sends tiny, precisely controlled pulses of RF that turn into gentle heat the moment they meet the resistance of your skin tissue — and that controlled heat is what tells your collagen to rebuild. It's not "radiation" in the scary sense. It's just very targeted warmth, delivered exactly where we want it and nowhere else.
Who shouldn't get this treatment? +
We'll never treat anyone who's pregnant or nursing, taken Accutane in the last 6 months, has a pacemaker or other electronic implant, has an active skin infection, daily blood thinners, or certain skin conditions. We screen carefully during your consultation. If you're not a candidate, we'll tell you.
Can I combine it with other treatments? +
Yes — we can coordinate Pixel8 with neurotoxin, dermal fillers, or weight-loss treatments at our sister clinic. We'll build the right sequence and timing during your consult.
How long do the results last? +
After a full series, results typically last 12–18 months. Many clients book a single maintenance session once or twice a year to keep the collagen production active. The collagen you build doesn't disappear — but your skin keeps aging, so maintenance keeps you ahead.

The information on this page is for educational purposes only and does not constitute medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. RF microneedling creates controlled micro-injuries in the skin and delivers radiofrequency energy to the deeper layers; expect flushing similar to a mild sunburn for about 24 hours, possible pinpoint bleeding, swelling, and tiny scabs that form and shed over the first few days. Do not pick at them. Aftercare requirements include no washing of the treated area for six hours, no lotions, creams, or makeup for 24 hours, no AHA or BHA products for 48 hours, no retinoids for one week, no vigorous exercise for 48 hours, and avoidance of direct sun for two weeks with zinc-based sun protection thereafter. A series of at least three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart is typically required, with deeper concerns such as acne scarring often needing four to six; collagen remodeling continues for up to six months after each session and results after a full series typically last twelve to eighteen months with periodic maintenance. Risks include but are not limited to prolonged redness, swelling, bruising, temporary changes in skin texture, infection, temporary darkening or lightening of the skin — a greater consideration in darker skin tones, for which settings are adjusted — and rarely scarring. Treatment is not performed during pregnancy or nursing, within six months of isotretinoin (Accutane), on anyone with a pacemaker or other electronic implant, over an active skin infection, or while taking daily blood thinners; additional skin conditions are screened at consult. Candidacy, needle depth, session counts, and expected outcomes vary by individual and are determined only after an in-person clinical evaluation; individual results vary and no specific outcome is guaranteed.
