The same handpiece runs two ways, and picking between them is a big part of tailoring the treatment to you. One is the deliberate, all-skin-types workhorse; the other glides at up to ten pulses a second for speed and comfort — but it has rules about who can use it.
Standard delivers higher energy in a longer, more deliberate pulse, placed area by area. It's the only mode we use on tanned or darker skin — for Fitzpatrick V and VI we run it at one pulse per second with a "chill–pop–chill" rhythm that lets the cooling catch up between shots. Slower, but it reaches every skin tone safely, which is the entire point.
Fast mode uses lower energy at up to ten pulses per second, so we glide the handpiece in a smooth, continuous motion — generally more comfortable than Standard, and quick over large areas. It's excellent for debulking dense, coarse hair early in a series. The limits are firm: skin types I through IV only, and never on tanned skin.

Everyone in the room wears 810nm-rated eyewear. We apply a thin layer of gel for glide and protection, confirm your settings, and — for darker skin — read a test spot first. Then we work in small cross-hatched quadrants, either gliding in Fast mode or stamping in Standard, with the sapphire tip cooling before, during, and after every pulse.
